South Cumbria Rivers Trust and Groundwork (Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside) have teamed up to deliver a ‘Love My River’ project.
Under the Tesco Community Grants scheme this project has been shortlisted to receive a cash award, of £25,000, £15,000 or £10,000 as part of the Tesco Bags of Help centenary grant initiative, however, now they need your help to secure the top grant.
The ‘Love My River’ project will deliver a range of practical workshops, education programmes and training opportunities to involve the local community in understanding, and improving the quality of our local rivers. The project will target plastic pollution and showcase the negative impact that plastic has on local wildlife, whilst proactively tackling the problem. Other workshops will focus on understanding water quality and habitat loss, supported by a programme of practical improvements.
Through these activities the two trusts will bring people together and create positive social interaction and celebrate people’s connection with nature. Practical volunteering is a great way to get outdoors and meet new people, for which the associated physical and mental well-being benefits are far reaching.
If you shop at Tesco and would like to support this project, then please vote in store. Every vote counts.
Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant. Shoppers can vote every time they shop in stores across Cumbria and Lancashire between 1st of October and 31st December 2019.
