Happy Christmas!

Wishing you a Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2023 from the Becks to Bay Catchment Partnership.

It’s been a busy year, with many new initiatives and opportunities. The Landscape Recovery schemes pilots, for which the Duddon was selected are a great step in the right direction for bigger, better, more joined up habitats. The Duddon Valley Partnership will continue to drive this forward in 2023.

We’ve also been building a new structure for the partnership. We will continue with our South Cumbria wide group who oversee the strategy and connect into wider initiatives. However, we have also developed a series of working groups who are working locally to identify and drive action on the ground. For example, the Love Windermere partnership is now well established with new data and actions emerging. This will contribute to the formation of a long term plan for the catchment. Additionally, we had further success in the autumn, when we secured funding from Garfield Weston to support the development of a community partnership for Windermere. You can find out more about our community partnerships here.

Our newest working group on the Kent will link closely with the LIFE R4Ever Kent project and the River Restoration Strategy. Working at a catchment scale the group will develop a vision that draws together local communities and stakeholders to deliver environmental and water quality improvements.

We’ve also been strengthening the network of catchment partnerships across the North West. The Natural Course project has running a series of training events and identifying ways to better support the partnerships and advocate their value.

2023 is sure to bring many new challenges and opportunities. We have some great plans in action including;

  • As Cumbrian catchment partnership’s we’re looking to work together to collectively engage with other strategies including the Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
  • Establishment of our Windermere community partnership.
  • Continued development of our working groups.
  • Publication of our reviewed catchment plan.

Finally, thanks for your continued support through 2022.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
