South Cumbria Rivers Trust are working with the Environment Agency, United Utilities, National Trust and other partners to trial innovative technology to reduce phosphate inputs from septic tanks. Septic tanks have been identified as a major source of phosphates within the Windermere catchment. A 1 year feasibility is investigating options to develop technology to reduce these inputs. It is hoped that this will form a longer-term delivery phase working closely with local businesses, homeowners and other stakeholders.
