Mebendazole kills threadworms (also known as pinworms) by disrupting their energy metabolism. It works by inhibiting the worms’ ability to absorb glucose, an essential nutrient they need to survive. Without glucose, the threadworms become depleted of energy, leading to paralysis and eventual death. This process typically occurs within a few days of taking the medication, allowing the body to naturally eliminate the dead worms through the digestive tract.

Threadworms primarily live in the intestines and reproduce by laying eggs around the anal area, often causing intense itching. Mebendazole 100 mg Tablet effectively targets the adult worms in the intestine but does not kill the eggs. This is why a second dose is often recommended two weeks after the first to kill any newly hatched worms and prevent reinfection. Maintaining good hygiene practices during and after treatment is also essential to fully break the cycle of infestation.
