Local Communities

Communities are at the heart of the Becks to Bay partnership. As a member of the local community you hold a vast wealth of knowledge which is important to help our understanding of the area. You have a good insight into the history of the area and are the eyes and ears of the catchment on a day to day basis. This information is vital to protect the identity of the area whilst also identifying opportunities to enhance the environmental, cultural and economic benefits these catchments can provide.

If you would like to get involved with your local area, a great way to meet like-minded people and show your support for the area of South Cumbria is via our community catchment partnerships. You can show your support in a variety of ways including attending local shows and events, publicising the partnership and its work, delivering practical habitat improvements, raising vital funds or by joining our wide-scale monitoring programme. The scope is as wide as each group wishes.

To join a catchment partnership please contact us and include the subject catchment partnership. To find your local partnership please click here.

Do you have another way you would like to support the partnership? We’re open to suggestions!

In Your Own Home

Whilst we often focus on large-scale delivery, the small-scale day-to-day improvements are just as key. We can all make a difference. For example, we can all be more aware of our water usage, by turning taps off in between use and fixing leaks.

Do you have a septic tank? If so then you need to maintain these regularly to ensure they don’t cause a problem for the environment. A well maintained septic tank will save you money in the long run! Further support for maintaining a healthy septic tank can be found on the Call of Nature website.

Local Schools

We frequently work with schools and local artists to deliver a programme around your local river catchment, often getting our feet a little wet. Our findings are transformed into amazing works of art to be shared with parents, teachers and wider communities.

We always enjoy working with local schools and youth groups. Please get in touch if you would like to be part of our education programme, its all good fun.
